God’s Limit

How much evil brings good? Now that Charlie Kirk is dead, will America get better? Some people from almost all walks of life think so.

One of my favorite Psalms, 76, verse 10, says, “Surely the wrath of man shall praise thee; the remainder of wrath shalt thou restrain.” KJV, or, “shalt thou put on like a belt,” in the ESV. God will only allow our wretched evils to go so far. The idea is paraphrased well in the NLT, “Human defiance only enhances your glory, for you use it as a weapon.

As the Westminster Confession clearly points out, “The almighty power, unsearchable wisdom, and infinite goodness of God so far manifest themselves in his providence, that it extends even to the first fall, and all other sins of angels and men, and that not only by a bare permission, but such as has joined with it, a most wise and powerful bounding.” Yeah, sounds harsh, right? Yet, “the sinfulness thereof proceeds only from the creature.” It means, simply, that Robinson’s perverse creature will accept full responsibility.

Choose for yourself. The Glory all belongs to God, who restrains the rest of wrath for Himself.

God’s Glory will only grow. We may see a thousand people now take up the torch from Charlie. We may not. We might see a worse Sodom and Gomorrah unleashed. It may be worse, leading to the great Armageddon, but never forget that those final days are happening, and will happen.

Even so, come quickly, Lord Jesus.
