Shooting at Canon

Canon really had it all, and did it all. In the old days. They are still solid and dependable and all that. They compete in all areas of technology and engineering. Canon has two big problems, though.

First, they are not in front. I can’t think of a truly “best” camera from Canon in, well, since the 5D. That was years ago. Second, they disconnected themselves from their best history and traditions. Sony has the tech. Nikon makes the best SLR. Even Panasonic, Pentax and Fujifilm have better niche markets, higher scores, or better combinations of features, form and function.

At this point, it looks likely I will choose another Rebel, like the T7i (best beginner camera a couple of years ago) because frankly, it is now a better camera than 5D, and a new one will probably last. That has become my attitude about Canon.

If there is no real need for the best of anything, Canon will do. It’s comparable. How sad.

The point, the T7i is an upgrade for me, and costs under $500. And it will work with every lens I own. I have my eyes open now.
